i-manager Publications, Nagercoil upgrades with an Autoprint Dion 450+

Tamil Nadu-based i-manager Publications has recently installed an Autoprint Dion 450+ four colour press. The company is already a user of Autoprint Dion 250. “The print quality of this machine has helped us to get traction in the local market. Moreover, our customers too have benefitted by faster and timely delivery and better printing quality,” says Renisha Winston, director, i-manager Publications. “With the Dion 450+, we now plan to enter into new printing segments, and also serve the needs of the South Kerala markets,” she adds.

i-manager Publications specialises in publishing scientific, technology, education and management journals. The year 2004 saw the launch of their first journal i-manager’s Journal of Educational Technology, which was accepted by the academia at large. Over the past 12 years, they have launched new journals year after year and at present i-manager Publications bring out 28 classic journals, in diverse streams of engineering, education, management and nursing. i-manager Printing Press, the printing unit, supports the printing requirements and has been a major factor in the turnaround success over the years.

i-manager Printing Press had been successfully running their Autoprint Dion 250 but when business grew, they decided to upgrade to a 4-colour machine. “We had a choice between imported make and Autoprint,” says Renisha Winston, director, i-manager Publications. “Our experience with Autoprint has been great. We had a satisfactory customer service from Autoprint for the earlier machine; the improved features of Dion 450+; the compactness of the machine; and the attractive pricing altogether made us decide in favour of Autoprint Dion 450+,” she adds.

i-manager is into publishing of academic journals in diverse streams, for which Dion 450+ perfectly complements their business. “Right from the size of paper, we feel that this was a better choice, as cost of production is minimised in all aspects, ROI, space, labour, power, etc. It is a general misconception that only larger machines could leverage production. When we compare the cost factor, this works out better,” explains Renisha.

It has been an investment of around Rs 50 lakh constituting the Dion 450+ installation along with the production unit for the printing press for i-manager which, apart from this, also houses a binding machine. Besides publishing academic journals, i-manager also carries out commercial printing for academic institutions, corporate and other type of printing jobs for the local market. “The product offering in the commercial printing segment include – brochures, catalogues, flyers, pamphlets, calendars, visiting cards etc. We also do a sizeable amount of wedding cards, invitation cards etc,” says Renisha.

After the recent Autoprint Dion 450+ installation, i-manager is having enhanced experience. “The quality of printing has improved considerably after the Autoprint Dion 450+ installation. We are getting repeat customers and referral customers as customer satisfaction has been met. The overall experience with Autoprint – the Dion 450+ and the earlier Dion 250 – has been good,” reveals Renisha.

The present turnover of i-manager group is around Rs 1.5 crore which, but with their new installation, they plan to touch Rs two crore next year. The plans to add a single colour machine and a perfect cutting machine will be materialised soon, according to Renisha. She doesn’t feel the need to enter the digital printing segment soon, since they will be using their Dion 450+ for answering short-run demands as well. She expects an ROI of three years for their Dion 450+. Renisha Winston sums up their investment in the Autoprint Dion 450+ as, “A good investment at the right time!” Leaving aside a few teething problems that a new installation generally has, she is a proud Autoprint Dion 450+ owner. “We are proud of our latest Autoprint. The machine met all our needs and came out above our expectations,” she concludes.

Maya Printers invests in four colour Speedmaster CD 102

With its three-pronged strategy of enhancing productivity, reducing wastage and improving quality, Kochi-based Maya Printers recently invested in a brand new Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102. The Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 102 is a chart-buster in the 70 × 100 format series - a top-preference among packaging printers in India. Referred as the all-rounder, it can handle a range of substrates from 0.03-mm paper to 1-mm thick cardboard (0.0012 in - 0.039 in) with a production speed of 15,000 sph.

“It is a perfect fit to our requirements and an excellent ROI, that too in a short period. We constantly strive to reach new heights in quality excellence. Heidelberg is the name that we can easily and quickly associate with performance and productivity. Energy efficiency of the press is a big plus. It slices energy consumption costs significantly.” beams Prasad, the man who runs the show with his brother Ajay Kumar. He further adds, “Heidelberg is the ultimate preferred destination for the latest technologies, products and services. We embarked on our journey to success, when we bought our first brand new Speedmaster PM 74 four-colour press from Heidelberg.”

A family-run enterprise, Maya Printers caters to both the commercial and packaging printing segments. However, about 80 percent of the business revolves around commercial printing. The firm runs a tight ship on costs, while keeping productivity high. This helps Maya tide over the challenges of aggressive competition in the industry. Maya houses a full-fledged post-press unit, including a POLAR 92X programmable cutter, and stahl folding equipment. The prepress division has a Suprasetter A75 CtP with Prinect workflow software from Heidelberg.

“Speedmaster CD 102’s print format, production speed and alcolor dampening features give us a strong edge over competition. Moreover, the press can be upgraded to include the UV Printing option. More importantly, Heidelberg’s service support is beyond exemplary. We are second-time buyers, and will keep coming back for more,” adds Prasad. Looking ahead, Prasad envisages new horizons for his printing business in Kerala, in tandem with the upcoming Smart city and India’s largest container terminal. He expects his annual turnover to exceed Rs 10 crore, reflecting a targeted Year-On-Year growth of 15 to 20 percent.

New installations by Esko

L&E India Pvt Ltd, is a packaging resource company that helps brand owners design and execute their packaging materials across the country. In 2014, L&E India, in collaboration with SP TechPac Solutions in Kundli, purchased an Esko Kongsberg V20 sample making table. The sample making solution from Esko was a huge success. However, both companies quickly outgrew the arrangement and each needed an in-house sample maker of their own. Thus, in September 2015 L&E India bought a complete solution including Esko ArtiosCAD software and a Kongsberg V20 for its new office in Patparganj in New Delhi.

While, Delhi-based Alpha Flex, a prepress trade house, has now started producing digital flexo plates for labels, corrugation and flexible packaging. This is why the company has opted for the Full HD Flexo solution – a combination of software, optics in the CDI imager and a qualification by Esko that certifies the company’s skill sets and quality of plates. The complete Esko solution for flexographic plates offers a methodical delivery process and deployment along with a quick support for several application and production issues.

Right from the start, the company has chosen the most advanced digital flexo solutions: Esko software and a CDI Spark 4835 imager with high-resolution optics. The software includes Esko’s complete Suite 14 and Pixel Plus and the extensive hardware on the shop floor includes the Esko CDI Spark 4835 with high resolution optics and the Dupont Digiflow.

Karan Talwar, regional business manager of Esko in North India says, “We are pleased that Alpha Flex in New Delhi has established a flexographic prepress and platemaking plant that is totally on par with the best trade houses in India. It is a pleasure to install and bring up to speed an entire installation committed to state of the art technology. This project is a clear answer to the fast growing demand for quality flexo in North India.”

Bangalore’s VEEPEE Art Studios adopts Kodak Flexcel NX System and Prinergy Workflow

Veepee Art Studios, one of the premier pre-press operations in South India, recently added Kodak’s award-winning FLEXCEL NX System. The family owned business, in operation for over five decades, chose the Flexcel System as part of its continued focus on delivering outstanding quality to satisfy the evolving flexographic print application needs of its customers. The company’s heritage of investing in print innovations began when it became a pioneer in the market making photo-polymer blocks for customers. The investment in Kodak’s Flexcel NX System continues the company’s tradition of leading the market.

A combination of advanced plate surface patterning technology and advanced highlight imaging techniques, made possible by the unique nature of KODAK SQUARESPOT Imaging Technology, is a significant step forward in print quality across all graphic elements of a package while simultaneously driving print production cost savings.

VEEPEE Art’s Jai Prakash noted the systems advantages, “Kodak Flexcel NX System offers distinct advantage of true “Flat top dots” – a standard that the industry increasingly desires. Kodak SQUAREspot Imaging Technology powers the advantage of producing very high-quality imaging. Not only does it boost final output, but it also leads to a faster plate-making process. Add to this the ability to hold even dots as small as 0.04 percent on the plate, and we eliminate all dot bumps or plate variability that is commonly seen with LAMS technology. Special screening technology also helps in rendering highlight dots, giving perfect vanishing vignettes.”

VEEPEE Art looks to expand its business by working across a variety of print applications like label printing, corrugation and board printing with the addition of the FLEXCEL system. The benefit for customers will be an exceptional quality of print using digital flexo technology that is comparable to gravure, without the limitations that come with analog and existing LAMS plates.

VEEPEE Art is combining the Kodak Flexcel NX System with Kodak Prinergy Workflow. The integration of Prinergy into their operation will help VEEPEE reduce production errors, enhances productivity, achieve outstanding flexibility, accept all popular file formats and manage proofing devices, Digital Printing Machines & CtP devices directly. The software also ensures that VEEPEE Art’s workflow process is custom-built to handle even the most complicated trapping and colour requirements from its customers.

Abraham Prabhakar, vice president – Micro 3D Printing & Packaging, Kodak - India Cluster, commented: “Today’s ultra-competitive market demands improved print quality with shorter run lengths and faster turnaround times. VEEPEE Art is a pioneer in the market and transformational technology like FLEXCEL NX fits perfectly with their focus on exceeding their customers’ expectations for print quality and service excellence. There is no question they will be producing the most exceptional plate quality in the market.”
