FUJIFILM India caters country’s first Eastcom VLF CtCP to Maa Reprographics

Maa Reprographics, a leading pre-press house based in New Delhi, has recently installed the country’s first Eastcom VLF CtCP in its Bawana facility. The very large-format CtCP from FUJIFILM India makes them capable to boost volume of production with simplicity and quality to the utmost level. Subsequent to the successful installation and inauguration of the first ever Eastcom VLF CtCP in the country at Maa Reprographics in New Delhi, SM Ramprasad, AVP, Graphics Arts Division, FUJIFILM India said that the existing opportunity in the Indian printing industry is ample; and the technologies FUJIFILM is offering across the pre-press as well as printing domains are in tandem with the current requirements.

“FUJIFILM India has been our mentor and partner over the last six years in a way that without them we would have never attained where we are today,” asserted Masoom Kathuria from Maa Reprographics. Such mutual relationship between the two companies has instilled Maa Reprographics to go for the very large-format CtCP. Recalling their initial move, Masoom stated that they opened their first pre-press venture AM Graphics in the year 2011 with the adoption of an FFEI Violet CtP machine. “We have had a very successful experience with the machine in terms of quality and service support, thus our relationship continues,” he mentioned.

Over the years, with gaining growth and moving along the latest trends, Masoom eventually decided for a grand expansion, in which they gave birth to Maa Reprographics. “Banking on our successful experience with FUJIFILM India, we finally decided to invest in Eastcom VLF CtCP online plate setter system, which would enable us to cater to a larger market segment and enhance our capabilities in addressing customers’ requirements,” said Masoom

Manufactured by Hangzhou Eastern Optiolectronics Technology, a subsidiary of Potevio Eastcom Communication Group, Eastcom VLF CtCP is designed for 2400 dpi, and the machine is crafted with external drum, capable to deliver maximum plate size of 1670x1330mm and minimum 650x550mm. External dimension of the machine is LxWxH (3140x1975 mm) x 1280 mm.

When asked what they expect from Eastcom VLF CtCP, Masoom is very clear about the machine that can help them increase turnaround time and reduce operating cost. “Earlier we faced difficulty in handling bigger plate sizes; but with the adoption of the very-large format CtCP, things get easier, simpler and rather better,” mentioned Masoom.

Maa Reprographics has been sole supplier of plates to a number of leading book publishers, offset printing firms around Delhi and its satellite towns like Punjab. To name a few leading names in the list, it may include popular offset printing firms viz. SD Offset, DN Offset, Dewan Offset, among others.

Kodak’s thermal CTP technology a hit in Tamil Nadu

Earlier this year, Kodak celebrated 21 years of thermal imaging technology and its 21,000th computer-to-plate (CTP) sale at drupa 2016. In India, the print industry continued to build on its healthy growth trajectory with investments in new technology and equipment a key factor shaping the future for the country’s hundreds of thousands of printers. One region, in particular, has characterized this investment trend over the past year. In the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Kodak has seen sharp demand for its portfolio of CTP platesetters with ten customers in 2016 choosing to integrate Kodak’s complete pre-press solution -- thermal CTP platesetters, thermal printing plates, and Prinergy Workflow -- into their operations.

By incorporating this pre-press combination, printers are realizing improvements in productivity, quality, and sustainability, especially when integrating technology like SONORA Process Free Plates.

Some of the well-known printers in Tamil Nadu which have adopted Kodak technology include:

Digital Plate System in Chennai installed their fifth Kodak CTP, a Trendsetter Q800. As a pre-press Bureau, their core needs include speed of output and high resolution to meet the exacting needs of their customers. They opted for a high-speed machine (X Speed) that delivers 2400 dpi output at a standard 34 plates an hour. Combined with Kodak plates, Digital Plate System will utilize this advanced infrastructure to expand their business in the market.

While, Frontline Printer in Guindy, which serves the publishing market (newspapers and magazines) added a second Kodak CTP machine with the purchase of a Kodak Trendsetter Q400.

Eswari Cards in Sivakasi, which was established over 50 years ago, has carved out a niche in the wedding card market, where they are well-recognized leaders offering a wide variety of options to professional wedding photographers. Recognizing market demand for a higher degree of output quality, Eswaro Cards installed a Kodak Trendsetter Q800 CTP and Kodak thermal plates.

In Madurai, Tamil Nadu’s cultural headquarters, a strong economy over the past few years has buttressed the growth of the print industry. Vijaay Offset is taking advantage of this trend and has invested in a Kodak Trendsetter Q800 for their offset production of stationery, book publishing, and general commercial printing jobs.

Olympic Cards is an existing Kodak customer, and they were running an older model of the Trendsetter 800 CTP platesetter. Their experience with Kodak and Trendsetter’s thermal imaging capabilities gave them the confidence to choose Kodak yet again, and they recently installed a hybrid Kodak Trendsetter Q800 CTP with DITR film imaging capabilities. Catering to wedding cards and stationery printing jobs, Olympic Cards is set to grow their business with the help of DITR, which produces consistent, reliable results with sharp image reproduction and exceptional background clarity.

The new installations in Tamil Nadu highlight the trust that the print industry has in thermal plate imaging technology and on Kodak’s ability to deliver on the demands of India’s burgeoning print industry.

Heidelberg makes inroads into tier-II cities

–Tiruvannamalai’s Subam Printers installs a brand new Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74

As part of its revenue acceleration strategy, Tiruvannamalai-based Subam Printers expanded its most-coveted portfolio with a brand new Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74. “Quality excellence is an unspoken commitment to the customer. We continue to rely on Heidelberg to help us deliver this promise,” smiles Palani, managing director, the driving force behind the 25-year old print firm.

The Heidelberg connection…

Palani (in center) with the brand new Speedmaster SM 74 Four colour press. From a modest beginning as a screen-printing startup in 1991, Subam Printers has grown to a 12,000 square feet print facility today, owing to the relentless efforts of this first-generation printer. His relationship with Heidelberg dates back to 2011, when Subam installed a Speedmaster 74, four-colour offset press at its Guindy subsidiary in Chennai.

A major portion of Subam’s business consists of commercial printing jobs from regular clients. The print shop is equipped with a state-of-the-art designing division and a complete array of prepress and postpress equipments. The latest Speedmaster SM 74 installation is a perfect fit into the print shop’s quality- and performance-conscious modus operandi, which is to “avoid delays and defects, while practicing zero tolerance to negligence.”

How Speedmaster SM 74 will enhance their work?

Palani states emphatically, “With our new ‘Speedmaster SM 74.’ there would be no delays or defects, thanks to automation components like ‘Autoplate’ to facilitate fast and efficient plate changes. This in turn, reduces make-ready and setup times phenomenally compared to other presses. With a production speed of up to 15,000 sheets per hour, the press is exactly what we need for our commercial printing setup.”

Ganesh Kumar, senior sales manager, Heidelberg, adds, “Productivity, performance and Prinect – that sums up the Speedmaster SM 74 for you.” The Prinect Easy Control colour measuring system of the Speedmaster SM 74 helps in bringing down paper waste levels, while a speed-compensated Alcolor dampening system produces brilliant print results. A highly-automated feeder with central suction tape helps the Speedmaster SM 74 handle a wide array of printing substrates, from thin paper to board, ranging in thickness from 0.03 mm (0.0012 inches) to 0.6 mm (0.024 inches).

“The latest generation print buyers are sticklers for quality output, as well as timely and reliable delivery. The SM 74 will help drive better user experience for our growing client base. It is our key to explore a broader addressable market,” Palani says.

Heidelberg focus on tier-II cities

The installation is also a reflection of the inroads Heidelberg is making into Tier-2 cities. Rajendra Prasad, manager - Marketing & Communications, comments, “The Indian print industry has the next wave of growth from Tier-2 cities. We are glad that our continued emphasis on Tier-2 markets is starting to pay off. The Subam installation shows that we have moved from market creation into the adoption phase. While we focus on innovation in core technologies, Heidelberg will continue to keep the customer at the centre of everything we do.”
