Konica Minolta India redefines digital printing with new game-changing AccurioPress

Accurio is not merely a brand but a ‘concept’ that Konica Minolta has developed, bringing a fresh vitality into digital printing. AccurioPress 2060 and AccurioPress 2070 are two models being introduced in the Indian market. Yoshinori Koide, EGM-Business Strategy & Project Management Business Planning Division and Manish Gupta, national manager, PP & IP Business Marketing, Konica Minolta India, talk about the prospects and potentials of the new machines and more in conversation with Jyaneswar Laishram from Print & Publishing.

Konica Minolta India’s introduction of two AccurioPress machines—AccurioPress 2060 and AccurioPress 2070—has set new standards for combining superior performance and value in print quality. Derived its name from the word accurate, this new AccurioPress Series is designed with advanced workflow and colour management tools that can fine-tune accuracy, keeping cost of production down. AccurioPress 2060 and AccurioPress 2070 are upgraded from bizhub PRESS C1060 and bizhub PRESS C1070.

Upgraded features

“Compared to the bizhub predecessors, AccurioPress 2060 and AccurioPress 2070 have some upgraded features in terms of printing and functionality. These new digital presses are versatile in several verticals, including printing on bold media options. There are two key upgrades in the new AccurioPress. First, the new digital presses can take up heavy paper stocks up to 350 gsm; and secondly, the systems have equipped with advanced LU-202XL paper tray,” explains Manish Gupta. These presses are faster in envelope printing with variety of configurations.

Mention of the advanced features of AccurioPress presses may include Konica Minolta’s own robust finishing options as well as Plockmatic booklet maker. Capable to deliver high-end print graphics, this new series can deliver quality prints for book jackets, tri-fold brochures, posters and more. On-demand jobs are churned on these presses at 71/61 colour pages/min, delivering singular image in 1200 x 1200 dpi x 8 bit full colour resolution. In the book printing arena, these presses are suitable for producing completely finished, professional saddle-stitched or perfect bound books.

Manish says those who will be getting new benefit with the introduction of AccurioPress include reprographic centres, print shops and other establishments that indulge in commercial printing. “These new, comprehensive and fully-modular digital presses can maximise outputs, minimise labour and cost,” he explicates, adding that the systems make everything faster, easier and simpler. Moreover, the systems are suitably designed for fast short-run jobs as well as prototypes for packaging firms.

On MGI front

On the other side, Konica Minolta’s partnership with MGI has been gaining new ground in the packaging and special graphic segment. “Concerning our MGI profile, we are looking forward to expanding it with addition of new models, such as JETvarnish 3D Evolution for B1+ format, which offer commercial printing firms a full range of production environments and post-press applications,” explains Yoshinori Koide. Citing 2016 as the year of success for Konica Minolta, he says they had scored five installations of MGI systems in India till last year. Among the five MGI adopters in India, one is a big player in the packaging sector.

“Spot varnishing in post-press stage was quite a tedious job, which used to take days to complete a simple application. But today, with the advent of advanced systems, like MGI, things get easier and simpler as those applications that consumed days earlier can now be done in a day or two,” explains Manish. In this aspect, Yoshinori adds they are now chalking out plan to gradually expand the MGI portfolio and customer base in the segment.

Future strategies

Manish Gupta and Yoshinori KoideMGI products, according to Yoshinori, are receiving a new momentum of demand in the Indian market. “We were a bit laid back for a few months last winter due to the outburst of demonetisation move all out of blue,” Yoshinori says, adding that 20 percent of their business dipped during the economic slowdown as their customers were upset because it all happened during the festive seasons. Though they had recovered from the crisis swiftly, within a month or two, it hampered them for some time, he said.

As long as magnification of their product portfolio is concerned, Yoshinori says they will give equal focus on all parameters of their product line comprising MGI, digital press line, and the most awaited KM-1. “We believe the growth in digital segment will gain a new momentum, let’s say, in the next three years down the line—which is why we have brought the new AccurioPress Series into our portfolio,” he says, adding, “What is on the card for us now is the formal launch of KM-1 in the Indian market.

“Besides making the KM-1 available in the Indian market, we have a string of tasks to be worked upon in connection to the launch of this mega machine, which may primarily include logistics, after-sale service and such activities,” says Yoshinori. Observing the current technology trend, he says both offset and digital will stay side-by-side and these two technologies have to complement each other. He further observes that it has not been just in the digital press arena where innovations are popping up; even the offset technologies nowadays become more responsive and resourceful than before.

Suggestive notes

Manish says Konica Minolta India wishes everyone around to tap the opportunity surfacing in this phase of digital transition in the industry. In a similar tone, Yoshinori conveys that digital is a new game-changer posing as a complement or a partner to offset. “Nothing could beat digital presses when it comes to short-run jobs, and label printing is another domain where digital presses rule,” he affirms. Konica Minolta had recently unpacked bizhub PRESS C71cf, an optimum digital press for label converters.

GotPrint takes home Benny using Scodix technology

Printograph, Inc DBA, Inc has received the coveted Benjamin Franklin “Benny” award for the Digital Enhancement category. The winning work is an annual booklet called the Broker’s Product List (BPL). The BPL is a collection of each product GotPrint offers, as well as planned future offerings, showcasing the company’s capabilities to their broker customers, as well as other print industry leaders.

According to Erina Sookiasian, website product manager, GotPrint, they used the Scodix Ultra Pro with Foil to take it one step further. “We trusted the Scodix press to UV coat the entire cover of the BPL, to showcase the capabilities of our new system. It allows us to really flaunt our design concept and creativity. In the end, we were so pleased that we distributed over 100,000 of our catalogues to those in the print industry,” she said.

The Scodix Ultra Pro with Foil digital press transforms a very time-consuming analogue and expensive process that enables service providers and their customers to enhance their prints with vibrant foil treatments. Using the inline Scodix digital workflow, foil enhances any project in-house, who today have to outsource the foil application or to use a long and expensive make ready processes that include moulds and dies.

Long-time RICOH customer Vineeth Prints adopts a new RICOH Pro 7100

Chennai-based Vineeth Prints, which is a long-time RICOH customer, has upgraded their machine portfolio with the adoption of a new RICOH Pro 7100. Print & Publishing takes a look at the latest technological development in the leading commercial printer in the city and reason why they went for a new RICOH production machine.

Vineeth Prints is one of the leading commercial printers in Chennai, which boasts of a state-of-the-art production facility, equipped with a string of RICOH machines – RICOH 615, RICOH Pro 907EX, RICOH Pro C5100S and RICOH Pro 8100EX. Now, a RICOH Pro C7100 is the latest being added to the family, installed just three months back.

When asked the reason for choosing RICOH machines only, R Babu, director, Vineeth Prints says that they rely on the technology and consistency of RICOH systems. “Ever since we have been using a line of RICOH machines, there is no trouble in maintaining print quality and we don’t need to think of technical snags, like paper jam and mid-way hitches,” he mentions.

RICOH Pro C7100 features 4-drum dry electrostatic transfer system with internal transfer belt. This production digital press can run at the speed of 80ppm to deliver print resolution upto 1200 x 4800dpi. Print dimension of the printer is 1,320 x 910 x 1,218mm (WxDxH) and the machine takes less than 300 sec of warm up time. The machine is bundled with the standard workflow solutions, such as EFI Digital StoreFront, EFI Color Profiler Suite, SeeQuence Suite, RICOH Process Director Express, Prep, Print Manager, Production Manager and others.

“We are so impressed with RICOH Pro C7100’s offset-like image quality. This digital press supports a board range of papers. And most of all, we face no operation problem with RICOH Pro C7100, everything is hassle free in using this machine,” mentions R Babu. Vineeth Prints engages in print jobs of almost all kinds, which range from book printing to packaging printing. A number of leading hospitals in Chennai are prominently in the client list of Vineeth Prints.

Mentioning about two prominent hospitals from their client list, SRS Hospital and Ramachandran Hospital, R Babu says they provide every bit of print requirements for these hospitals in Chennai, which include leaflets, brochures and others. In addition, Vineeth Prints is popular in the circle of book publishing companies for short-run jobs.

R Babu says the digital production press, such as RICOH Pro C7100 makes short-run jobs easier than expected. “We have been into on-demand booking printing for a long time. Now, our activity in this segment has been scaled up after the adoption of the line of RICOH production machines,” he mentions, adding that their recent investment in RICOH Pro C7100 is yet a new step to take short-run book printing to a new level.

After all, Vineeth Prints boasts of its competency and capability because of its strong machine portfolio. And behind this portfolio is the company’s dedicated team of 70 well-trained professionals, among which eight are graphic designers, who are deputed to develop concepts and designs as per the need and desire of their clients.

As per R Babu, Vineeth Prints will always remain a complete print solution provider in the city. For this, he says they always observe the market and feel the need of customers. He also mentions that it will be another RICOH machine, whenever they will plan to upgrade their production facility in future.

New developments at HP

HP Inc. has made two important announcements globally at PRINT 17. HP announced double-digit growth in its graphics customers’ commercial digital page volume, alongside accelerated adoption of its digital presses by leading print service providers worldwide as they grow business in a connected world.

While, the company also announced the HP Indigo 12000 HD Digital Press with breakthrough high definition imaging, and new print performance technology for HP PageWide Web Presses, setting new industry benchmarks for quality, productivity and colour. These solutions are yet another step by HP in leading the acceleration of the analogue-to-digital graphics printing transformation.

The High Definition Imaging System for the B2-sized HP Indigo 12000 HD Digital Press doubles image resolution to 1625 dpi, delivering sharper, smoother, finer print. With this high addressability print resolution, print service providers (PSPs) can surpass offset quality and open new digital possibilities in high-end commercial and photo applications.

HP Indigo’s market-leading1 Series 4 large format platform has already reached 600 presses operating worldwide, with the sale last week of an HP Indigo 12000 Digital Press to American Litho. For HP PageWide Web Presses, Performance HDK mode is a new optimization technology for High Definition Nozzle Architecture (HDNA) printing. Now available for the HP PageWide Web T240 HD, it offers improved quality in color or mono at full press speed of 500 feet per minute. As a result, more high-quality digital pages can be economically produced on inkjet for publishing, direct mail and commercial print.

Canon India flags off a Pan India roadshow
